In very simple terms, "digital" simply means a method of printing which is more closely related to desktop printers, than it is to high end printing presses, which usually require printing plates to be made, specialist inks to be utilised, and for the artwork to be “practically perfect in every way” as somebody once said. Digital printing can often mean considerably cheaper and speedier production - a very important consideration these days.
But don't be misled… The quality of print that is achieved by our digital printing presses is astonishing - and well worth considering for such things as short run flyers, booklets, or brochures, where the reproduction of spot colours is not ultra-critical, and the cost of high-end printing could be quite prohibitive.
Our eight colour digital printing software is also very tolerant and forgiving, when it comes to the type of artwork files we send to it.
For example we occasionally receive PDF files which, when we try to create the necessary colour separations required for Litho printing, the software might struggle to interpret the data. With digital printing, the issue of colour separation does not arise, which means that, so long as the file we receive is not corrupted in some way, the chances are that it will work fine first time, with no hitches.
