In some ways, embossing is the ultimate statement of class!

Specially made blocks are produced which are used in conjunction with inks to create an embossed printed surface on the paper; and a popular alternative is to have a “debossed” surface, where the image is sunk down into the paper.

And yet another option is just to have the embossing or debossing, without the use of any inks whatsoever. So what’s the point of having an image using no inks… how on earth could anybody see the result?

Actually, it’s the subtle changes in light that occur between the flat surface and the embossed (or debossed) image, which makes it visible. And it’s precisely because it’s such an understated process that the results are so effective and impressive.

But embossing is not a new concept – it’s been around for years. And it’s showing no signs of disappearing anytime soon… probably because to put it simply the effect is quite amazing.
